Menstrual Dignity

Adolescent girls in underserved regions, including Turkana County, especially in Turkana Central and North, face significant challenges during puberty, especially around menstrual health and limited access to guidance, role models, and support systems. The lack of access to sanitary towels forces many girls to stay home during their periods, leading to frequent absenteeism and increased dropout rates. Cultural stigma around menstruation and limited mentorship also contribute to low self-esteem, early pregnancy, and poor academic performance.

Providing consistent access to sanitary products, combined with life skills education and mentorship, can play a transformative role in ensuring that girls stay in school and pursue their full potential. These challenges range from financial constraints, lack of school supplies, emotional or psychological unpreparedness, and academic setbacks caused by prolonged holidays or disruptions in learning. The "Back to School" Program aims to bridge these gaps by providing pupils with the necessary tools, motivation, and support for a smooth transition back into academic life. The initiative aims to ensure that every child resumes school equipped and inspired to learn.

Mentorship and Training

We are focused on strategic and impactful interventions aimed at addressing two critical barriers to boys' and girls’ education: menstrual hygiene insecurity and lack of structured psychosocial support. By providing consistent mentorship and access to sanitary towels and offering life skills mentorship, the program not only improves school attendance and retention but also builds confidence, resilience, and leadership among adolescent girls.
